Pentagon officials emphasized the Syrian missile strikes were meant to send a very clear message to President Bashar Al-Assad.

During a press briefing Saturday Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Dana White, and Joint Director Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie, said the UK and France aided the U.S. in precision strikes, overwhelmed Syria’s missile air defense system and deployed 105 missiles against those targets.

One of the facilities was located in the greater Damascus area.

“This operation was carefully orchestrated and methodically planned to minimize potential collateral damage. I can assure you we took every measure and precaution to strike only what we targeted and we successfully hit every target.” -Dana White, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs

McKenzie said the Pentagon is not aware of any civilian casualties at this time, and have not seen any retaliation or military activity from the Syrian military.

When asked about whether they had any evidence of chemical weapons use, he said they were “still assessing but are confident of the evidence they already had.”
