A GOP lawmaker says Medicaid’s expansion under Obamacare may be a “contributing factor” to the opioid crisis.

Senator Ron Johnson presented his findings before lawmakers at a hearing on Wednesday.

According to his report, drug-overdose deaths are on the rise in states which have implemented the Obama-era policies.

It claims the government funded insurance allows greater access to prescription painkillers.

More than 1,000 Medicaid patients have faced legal action over the last decade for abusing the drug or reselling it on the streets.

Johnson first raised the issue last summer.
